Interviews from the Other Side
Episode 1 – X-Wing
This week I have managed to interview a guy from a nearby gaming store. He has planned to run an X-Wing campaign. Since it falls in my store principles to support local business, I thought I’d go ahead and prove it. Since doing the interview I have found the writers of the campaign and a link is below. My badly phrased questions are below in bold and the replies are in italics.
I am here with a special guest Matthew Davis. He is running an X-Wing campaign in Geeks Headquarters. Called Heroes of the Aturi Cluster. What can you tell me about the story so far?
Well, the alliance has suffered a number of devastating attacks that has depleted our forces. Nulan VI houses an Imperial Outpost supported by a Star Destroyer. With mostly new recruits the Alliance must strike fast and the fade away before the Star Destroyer can drop out of hyper space. Taking this system is vital to supply lines in the sector.
Hit and run eh? A little different from the current tournament meta. What do players need to bring?
They need their normal kit, movement templates etc. Then they need to bring either an X-Wing or a Y-Wing. As they level up they can swap out their fighters for other classes, the A-Wing, HWK-290, B-wing and I would be open to discussing other Alliance fighters and maybe even a few Scum ships also depending on the lowest pilot skill available for that given ship.
Keeping in theme, nice. How many weeks are you expecting to run this event for?
IT will be run on a monthly basis, with all the other events in the local area it was best to do it like this. But the handbook has between 6 and 15 missions and can run a minimum of 6 missions.
Yes there are a number of events locally. Though this one is different. What made you decide on this campaign?
Well, after speaking with a number of the players that come to GHQ it was clear that a lot of people were finding the normal dog fight a little boring. Thus I searched around I found this online. Brilliant idea and so I set it up. It means that anyone can join in and not get out classed by a more advanced player. Everyone is restricted at the start and everyone has pretty much the same two ships. So with everyone on the table at once working together to fell the Imperial forces it changes the game dynamic vastly.
Sounds like you have put a lot of thought into this. I think many players may agree. One last question, without revealing too much about the story are any of the star wars characters going to be making an appearance in the campaign?
Sadly no. I think it was designed to be an expanded universe story. A way for the players to become the heroes themselves. It is a nice idea doing it like this. That said the players do get to gain the pilot abilities of some of the characters from X-Wing, which is always fun I think.
Kinda like Rogue One. I like it
Yeah, fits in with the way that Disney are doing with Rogue one and the future films to come
So to summarise: Where? When? and Bring?
29 April at 11:00–16:00 at Geeks Head Quarters in Chesterfield, Bring all your dice, upgrade cards, pencil, movement templates and tokens. Drinks and snacks are available at the shop so this is good and it will cost £10 for the entire campaign .
So there you have it. Just to prove I have not gone completely mad I’ll say that X-Wing and supplements are available in store. That includes all rebel ships you need to play in this campaign. I also run regular X-wing tournaments. Please check out the store events page. Link to campaign creator website below.
